I figure players are starting to try to figure out how to make different types of characters in Champions Online. The passive slot you get in your characters build makes a big difference and in some ways define the role for your character. Below are the five defensive passive slot powers to choose from.
Invulnerability – A base percentage resistance to damage (large) plus a flat reduction (small) to incoming damage. Considered to be the best overall tanking set due to its dependability throughout a battle and against large numbers of foes. Summary: Best for high numbers of weaker opponents.
Regeneration – An increase in healing rate as your hit points drop. Gets stronger as you take more damage but does not seem to provide the same raw defense as Invulnerability. Slightly less desirable than Invulnerability for tanking. Summary: Good for all situations.
Defiance – Starts off with no resistance but increases periodically as you are damaged. Weak in the beginning of a fight but seemingly has the potential to provide the highest defense late in a fight (the cap was not determined during beta as far as I know). Tolerable for tanking with support in the beginning of fights. Summary: Best for long or frequent battles.
Personal Force Field – A buffer of extra hit points seperate from your own that absorb an amount of damage from incoming attacks. Great in the beginning of a battle but weak when the pool of points runs out. The hit points also regenerate seperatey from your own. Not desirable for tanking long or frequent battles. Summary: Best for short or infrequent battles.
Lightning Reflexes – Provides a chance to Dodge attacks which significantly reduces the amount of damage inflicted by the attack. Much more effective against small numbers of powerful foes than it is against larger numbers of weaker foes, making it less desirable for Tanking than the more dependable Invulnerability or Regeneration. Summary: Best for low numbers of more powerful opponents.
Personally I have tried invulnerability and regeneration and they both make a big difference in your characters survivability. If you plan to solo I definitely recommend picking up a defensive power as soon as possible. For more information check out our character creation guide.

It looks like Massively.com has discovered the first new framework being added to Champions Online after release. It will be the celestial framework!
Celestial sorcery is the power of the angels and heaven. What tipped them off on the framework was the two glowing comets of light in the above picture on the left side are already used in one of the current celestial powers, specifically the self-buff. Plus, you know, it’s not exactly a hard jump from “light” to “celestial.” Still, those who wield the powers of beyond will be happy to know that their small pool of skills will certainly become larger later this year with this first update.
Look for more information on the Celestial framework next week, as the developers make it available.

Within the next four weeks, we will treat European and North American gamers to two opportunities to jump into the world of Aion and explore Atreia as Asmodian or Elyos characters ahead of its release in Europe on 25th September and North America 22th September. Aion’s Open Beta Test featuring version 1.5 will take place 6-13th September and will include numerous Western enhancements, including improvements to Aion’s innovative character customization with a host of Western styles, as well as new zones, instances, skills, quests and continued game balancing and improvements.
