Cryptic Studios has announced that the registration for their upcoming Star Trek Online closed beta test is now open. Registering is easy, simply fill out this web form and you will be all set. No word yet on when the closed beta will take place.

Star Trek Online: Klingon Empire – Vo’Quv Class Has Been Revealed

Increased engine efficiency allows the Vo’Quv to travel great distances before the dilithium crystals must be realigned, and the ship carries electronic countermeasures capable of hampering enemy sensors. The Vo’Quv has the energy necessary to use these countermeasures even when cloaked.

Unlike many other Klingon ship designs, which are intended for fierce frontal attacks, the Vo’Quv is equally as dangerous from any angle. Omnidirectional disruptor beam arrays hammer opponents’ shields, and banks of torpedo launchers can be configured to launch arrays of photon and quantum torpedoes in seconds. In addition, the Vo’Quv packs a powerful tractor beam capable of holding most enemy ships in place for a final assault.

There are millions of die hard fans around the globe eager to see what Cryptic Studios has to offer, including myself. Here’s an early beta review posted on mmorpg.com. Enjoy!Just how innovative is STO? What will make STO better and different? Ship customizations, vivid character creation, intense PvP on the ground and in space, possible PC/Console hybrid, where console and PC units can connect to the same sever – and explore together sounds like a good start to me.To me, STO is going to go where no MMO has truly gone before.

MMORPG.com’s Carolyn Koh reports from a recent IRC chat about bride crews in Cryptic’s upcoming Star Trek Online MMO In Star Trek Online, every player is the Captain of his own ship, but like the characters in the TV series, there are career choices. Captain Jean Luc Picard was a diplomat and archeologist, and players similarly will develop skills. Apart from the character development, players will recruit their Bridge Crews throughout the game.

Star Trek Online has had a troubled past, and has seen much adversity as it tries to find its place in the universe — much like Khan Noonien Singh. After first being developed by Perpetual Entertainment over the course of four years, the studio filed for bankruptcy, and Cryptic Studios (famous for its City of Heroes and City of Villains games) then picked up the license. After that, the information flow about STO became a slow trickle.

So, with the new Star Trek movie out, how is the classic Trek MMO Star Trek Online dealing with it? MMORPG.com is reporting that the official site states that the film takes place in an alternate reality. Star Trek Online is set in the “prime” Star Trek reality. This is the timeline of the five television series and the first 10 movies. It is the world in which the Gorn attacked Cestus III, Kirk fought Khan in the Mutara Nebula, Picard explored the galaxy, the Federation fought the Dominion War, Voyager was stranded in the Delta Quadrant and Captain Archer and the crew of the NX-01 showed us how it all began.
